So Sweet P is gone. Big surprise. But what a cop-out on the Rami-Chris situation. The challenge was to choose a classic piece of art to use as inspiration. Rami chose a greek toga. That's as big a surprise as Sweet P being gone. The only time he HASN'T draped something was when he was forced to use a fabric that could not be draped. Is it just me or did it look like he was trying to drape that WWE diva's outfit too? Give him the barest option and he will make you the same damn dress every single time. Meanwhile Chris' dress was a great reinvention of the portrait he used. Yes, it was somewhat similar to the winning dress he made before ( he didn't win for) but it fulfilled the challenge wonderfully and was genuinely intriguing. Yet in this situation they went after Chris for doing something similar to what he did once before? WTF? Rami is infamous for one style of dress and refuses to think anything wrong with that. Any criticism of this he attributes to others not being as elegant as he is. In this situation, anyone could have told you exactly what Rami's dress would look like and in fact his model looked bored while trying the damn thing on. But they go after Chris for showing them something they had already seen? Their guest judge says he gave Chris' gown the highest rating yet they dare say they couldn't choose who should go between Rami and Chris?
Bullshit.
Again and again same damn thing. This is the only vision the man has.
Yet, they think Chris' having one gown of similar design is the same level of fashion deja vu?
Oh come on, Project Runway! You just can't stand the idea of Drag-Queen Chris, the man who was voted out, making it into your top three. But I'm not worried. You might have put it off for a little while but I have no doubt Rami made an entire line of draping for you to choke on.
How do you keep calm?
Submitted by L33tchica.
Several different ways since I am prone to panic attacks.
Quiet environment - my first choice is always to just relocate somewhere that is quiet that I can be alone and calm down in. Sometimes, I'll watch a little TV. The Discovery or History Channel is especially good for this. I am hyper-alert to sound so I turn off everything I can and usually have someone else watch the kids around me for a little while since their voices are at the perfect deciblel to drive me up a wall if I'm already half-way there.
Visualization - I visualize the feeling that is overwhelming me and locking it away in a huge vault. I've tried imagining it as something that can be destroyed but it always seems like it would just be remade into something else. Burn it and it turns into ash that gets into the air. That kind of thing. So instead, I imagine locking it away in a huge vault that I don't know the combination to. Usually helps a bit.
Breathing techniques - I force myself to measure my breathing. I usually count to eight and each time I start over, I force myself to count slower until eventually I am calmer.
Atarax/Benedryl - my last resort is atarax/benedryl to help calm me down. Unfortunately, all benzodiasipines (valium, klonopin, xanax) do not cause my system to react like most people. Instead of calming me down, it causes me to become more anxious and hyper-alert.
Sleep/Cry - A good cry and nap does wonders.
It's been a few days since we've had a new post to the group. So I thought I'd offer up another topic for discussion.
Who is your favorite Villian on B5?
I think one of the great things about JS's villians on the show was the he believes that "the monster does not see the monster in the mirror." It added a depth to them that I really enjoyed and continue to enjoy many, many years later. I think they were more disturbing for their depth. So, though there are some of the villians I'm going to mention that have sympathetic ties, I think they should still be put out there for their antagonistic roles in the show. Here are some of the contenders that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not going to mention the real bit part ones like Stoner.
My pick for all time favorite would have to go to someone that was most certainly a villian but was also perhaps the most tragic character on the show. That's definitely saying something with a show like B5 that is full of tragedy. He was a victim of fate and destiny. His heart was often ulitmately in the best place and when he tried to act nobly, it often led him into making his greatest mistakes. He was your best friend and your greatest enemy all at the same time. He was a great victim even while being a great villian. He was Londo Mollari.
Who was your favorite Villian?
You guys, I want to watch this show. I don't care if I don't understand what they're saying. Some things transcend the language barrier. I think Human Tetris is one of them.
Also, is everyone else sick about the massive amount of focus being put on stars being pregnant and/or adopting? I mean, seriously. Who isn't rumored to be pregnant now. I don't really watch that kind of stuff. But I know that rumors seem to cling on all these people: Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears, Shar Jackson (Damn, K-FED!), Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Anniston, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts . . . WTF? I'm past the point of not caring who's pregnant. I'm to the point where all those headlines are giving me a headache. How about this; I'll start wanting to read about it one Marc Antony, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Joel Madden, and most of all K-FED (Wouldn't that be justice?) are rumored to be pregnant. That may perhaps be newsworthy. I'm sick of babies as the new Hollywood Accessory.
This is fantastic. Not only is it a vid going through all of B5, but the song itself is about B5! How can you not love this?
Obviously, this is not mine.
This is some of the lyrics transcribed by me just by hearing. The guy speaks so fast that I couldn't get the whole thing, but I'll try to transcribe a few lines.
It's been
Five Years
Since we went on line
Laurel Takashima's gone
But Susan's so fine
Five years
since the Vorlon came
Someone tried to kill him
Sinclair didn't take the blame
Twelve years
Since we held the line
Twenty-four hours missing
Out of his mind
Yesterday
It went off TV
But it'll still be ok
'Cause we got the story"
I'm deeply surprised I was able to catch that much accurately. However, you can tell why I'd have to post this to the group. Enjoy!
One of the great thing about Babylon 5 is the ability for the show to capture the concept of war: the desperation, unexpected nobility, the ugly, and the beautiful . . . The first big war in the storyline is the Earth-Minbari war.
Babylon 5 itself, as the station, was created in response to the horror of that war. In the hope that such would never befall Humanity again. Because of that, the Earth-Minbari war was referenced quite a bit on the show and even had some flashbacks. However, it was the TV movie, In the Beginning that covered the Earth-Minbari war alone. Here is the promo:
This TV movie had two of the most moving speeches I've found on TV. Here is the first, made by the brilliant character, Londo Mollari while he's retelling the tale many decades later:
The second is the final call to arms given by the president of earth at the time:
And here is a very moving music video covering the entirity of the movie:
My most recent fanfiction was written with its focus being on the repercussions of the Earth-Minbari War. The fanfiction is called: What Is Not Forgotten.
No, I'm not really going to list the ways. (Though, number 1 would be giving me benzodiazepines like this wikihow suggests. Let's just say they have a very different affect on me than normal people.) I simply couldn't think of a better title. I don't believe I've made a vox post about this yet. On Wednesday, I am flying out to Chicago to meet up with Rain On Your Skin. I'm really looking forward to it. I've also been researching for it.
Yes, I am a dork.
I think I may actually enjoy this show. They are just all so great. It's the best reality show following a family that I've seen. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to stand my partner fooling around like Gene Simmons. I think I'd prefer to have my partner have one or two long term partners other than me instead of having him/her just have SO many different lovers. Not only for STDs but also for pregnancies... Shannon Tweed is a saint.
Anyways, I am one of those people that feels a lot more comfortable when I have thought out everything before hand and know exactly what to expect. Control freak? No. I just appreciate the God of Control. I have a feeling that he's a twin of Ares, God of War.
Nice . . . I have looked up different WikiHows. Mainly to amuse myself. I've also asked all my friends about tips for making flying easier. I've decided that everything I think I can do without is pretty much going in my main bag. Everything I need (such as reading, writing, camera) is going in my small carry-on bag. I plan to have my bedroom all pulled together for my leaving tomorrow. On Tuesday, I plan to have myself pretty much all packed. Wednesday, I plan to have myself ready. Early. Of course, I much prefer early than to late. And I only have one connection in Colorado. Luckily, my sleeping and mood are doing pretty well. I'm hoping that my BP will be doing well.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Chicago and DC with everything in-between and after.
Here I'll try to make a ticker:
And here's Christy's:
I hate when it gets close enough to the day of travel that I get excited for the trip but long enough that I still need to wait. I'm guessing that it's just going to get even more annoying until I am out there. And then I'll be happy that I survived it. The two things that really have me nervous are SECURITY and my connection in Colorado. Overall, I'm sure this is going to be great.
Now, so that you know it's me, here are some great Youtube finds! Hahaha!
Video: Show us your favorite show, scene or movie that takes place in the future.
My favorite Sci-fi anything.
Ever.
And best television show.
Ever.
(Psst: check out my fanfiction, What Is Not Forgotten.)
Here's some lovely youtube finds I've . . .um . . .found. Come on! Are you really surprised? If you've been reading my vox, you have to know that I have a deep and abiding love for Youtube. Let's start with random funnies:
Got your attention now? I really must see that movie. I bet there are some great fangirls out there already writing some great, BDSM slash for those Spartan boys, huh? Hmm . . .my search isn't coming up with anything. I'm sure I'm just not checking the right places. If anyone has links, you must share simply for the fact that Google has let me down and my curiosity is a bitch when left unappeased.
Next!
Yeah, I know you're going to skip that one, Christy.
OUCH! What was he THINKING? Did he truly believe he was going to go over her? Because his hip wasn't just going to open up down the middle or something.
So sad. But nice how he has turned the world on its side to achieve his dreams.
I don't like Mencia anyways . . .Of course, I was never too huge a fan of Cosby . . .Maybe if Mencia started stealing from Ellen or Eddie Izzard . . .
Umm . . .
Still love it!
I wish I was fluent in Japanese but still, the intensity of that girl is kinda freaky. Blink, Emily! Blink!
Oh, here's the preview for the episode of Ladette to Lady that mom had me watch. I have a feeling this shall be the family's new Project Runway. Well, I think I'm actually happier with Ladette to Lady. Even if I did want to slap that one gorgeous block with the huge tie. I swear to god! He was a Draco Malfoy. Except definitely not an albino. He's in the clip. Name's Leo. Gotta love when a good English girl's manners and speech are making an American girl cringe.
Then there are these great HP vids by the same girl who made that Marauder vid I loved. These are respectively about Bellatrix Lestrange nee Black (and bloodthirsty hubby) and Regulas Black (RIP).
Then there is this EXCELLENT Remus Lupin fanvid, made by someone else. They use film from other movies too but they do a great job:
Then I found a vid of Hudson Leick (plays Callisto in X:WP). She's very funny and charismatic. Oh, and has been pointed out, she's obviously had voice lessons to be able to scream like that. That scream is her character's trademark like that Yi-iiii-iii (Obviously can't put letters to that) thing is Xena's.
Oh and here's vid of her as Callisto for those who'd like a freshener.
Fun!
Video: Show us a TV series you own or watched on DVD.
Still my favorite television show of all time. Excellent stuff here. Even my favorite fanfic I've yet written was written for this fandom.
